At one o'clock every day except Sunday, a gun fires from Edinburgh Castle. It's been doing it since 1861, originally so ships down in the Forth could set their clocks by it. These days it just goes off, and half the city doesn't break stride while the other half jumps out of their skin. We liked the idea of something that dependable, so this one carries the name.
